GCAL CELEBRATES 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY IN LAS VEGAS

GCAL WILL PROVIDE FREE METAL ANALYSIS AT CBG & JCK SHOWS JUNE 1 – JUNE 7

New York City, NY (May 27, 2010)  Gem Certification & Assurance Lab, Inc. (GCAL™) will be offering free metal test analyses using a Thermo Scientific Niton x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to registered buyers and exhibitors at two major trade shows held in Las Vegas from June 1-3 (CBG @ Caesar’s Palace) and June 4-7 (JCK @ Sand’s Convention Center).

GCAL has been providing metal analysis testing through its New York based lab since 2007. Most recently, precious metals certification was added to its ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation scope. GCAL went through rigorous testing and certification recognized in the US by the National Cooperation of Laboratory Accreditation (NACLA).

Representatives from Thermo Fisher Scientific will be on hand to discuss technical and business aspects of the new and enhanced handheld XRF instruments that they developed for metals analysis, and in response to recent federal regulations concerning lead and cadmium. GCAL currently offers jewelry certification and quality assurance inspections and analyses for retailers and manufacturers.

Since the beginning of the “gold rush,” GCAL and its president, Don Palmieri, have appeared as experts for most of the major TV networks (CNN, ABC, NBC, & Inside Edition) on gold stories investigating and uncovering predatory buying practices aimed at consumers. In all such reports, Palmieri relied on Thermo Scientific Niton instruments for accurate analysis of jewelry being tested.

More than 25,000 Thermo Scientific Niton XRF analyzers are in use daily in the global marketplace. GCAL is committed to working closely with the company to maximize the uses for its analyzers in metals and gemstone element identification for the gems and jewelry industry. “We know we can already detect lead in glass-filled gemstones, and cubic zirconia can be detected quickly in parcels of melee or even pave diamond-set jewelry” explains Palmieri.

GCAL will provide one free metal analysis report for any registered buyer or exhibitor who provides a current business card.

About ISO 17025 Laboratory Accreditation
ISO/IEC 17025 is the main standard used by testing and calibration laboratories. There are two main sections in ISO/IEC 17025 - Management Requirements and Technical Requirements. Management requirements are primarily related to the operation and effectiveness of the quality management system within the laboratory. Technical requirements address the competence of staff, methodology and test/calibration equipment. Laboratories use ISO/IEC 17025 to implement a quality system aimed at improving their ability to consistently produce valid results. Since the standard is about competence, accreditation is formal recognition of a demonstration of that competence.
